our Pug Dog , The History of the Pug said:
The Orient is without question the place of birth of these beautiful Dogs. Dr.Cryer, who was one of the first Pug breeders in the United Statets, upon checking back through his pedigrees discovered that some of the decendants were capture in the Emperor of China's place during the siege of Peking & were eventually taken to England. The Kennel Club ( England) was started in April 1873 & in 1882 the very British Pug Dog Club was formed with an entry off 66 Pugs. The Pugs was a favorite of the Royal in England. The American Kennal Club (1885) accepted the Pug as a breed with only one Pug being registered 7 by the turn of the century there were no Pugs registered.
Today's Pug has not shown any dramatic change in fundamental characteristic, but it is agreed world wide that today's Pug shows a much improved symmetry of the body & of body to head. The shortening of the muzzle & the body to head are due to much more intensive & selective breeding.
